How many people with disabilities does the Vocational Rehabilitation system help?

The state-federal vocational rehabilitation (VR) program provides services for individuals with disabilities, assisting them in obtaining employment. The program, authorized by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, served 1,250,314 persons in FY 1995, including 940,177 with severe disabilities. That year, 209,509 individuals, including 159,138 with severe disabilities, were rehabilitated, or successfully completed their VR services and found work in a variety of jobs. Types of conditions and impairments that people served by VR have are shown below.
