Integrating the Kurzweil 3000 into your classroom

Karen E. Sunderland

Foreword: Karen E. Sunderland has been in the marketing field for over 10 years, working at Apollo/Hewlett Packard, Siemens Nixdorf, and Xerox. She is currently a Master's candidate at Lesley College in Cambridge and a Senior Product Manager for Lernout and Hauspie's Kurzweil Educational Group.

The Kurzweil 3000 from Lernout and Hauspie's Kurzweil Educational Group is PC based software that takes printed material and reads it aloud to the user. In today's fast paced world, technology changes rapidly. As developers of education software we know teachers want products that save time and help their students. This presentation will show the educator how to integrate the Kurzweil 3000 into their classroom. We will use lesson plans, actual textbooks, and web sites to demonstrate ease of use for the both the educator and student.

This presentation will show the educator key features of the Kurzweil 3000 and why they are important and how to use them. It will give the educator ideas on using the Kurzweil 3000 for those students with learning differences and or reading difficulties, as well as students in the general education class.

Students can do worksheets or tests right on the computer in Kurzweil 3000. We will show the educator how to create word lists, worksheets and tests right in Kurzweil 3000. This multi-sensory approach to reading will increase your student's comprehension and excitement for reading.
