Abstract:
This paper describes modifications of a wooden wheelchair based on needs of users. The needs were picked up from a result of a field test with an old type of wooden wheelchair at 2 hotels. The modifications were as follows. Make a concave back rest. Lean the upper part of the back rest backward. Narrow and shorten seat. Prevent getting seat dirty. Get hand rims feeling good (Made by wood and transplant chemical fibers). Put print of the grain of wood on the foot plates. Cover the spokes for protecting fingers of rider. Wooden brake lever. Prevent hands and cuffs from getting dirty. Put pocket on the back of the back rest. Extend grips for care givers. Get folding. To reduce the cost, transplanting chemical fibers to the metallic hand rims and gathering parts for it from international market were discussed.
