Abstract:
This paper describes efficacy of a standing mobility wheelchair which were developed already. The characteristic of this wheelchair is that a rider can stand up supported by it. Stand-up therapy is often taken in physiotherapy. It is efficacious for maintaining range of motion of the body joints and preventing bone atrophy and orthostatic hypotension which are called disuse syndrome. It is assumed to be also efficacious for defecation impairment. Therefore, these effects were expected to the standing mobility wheelchair. While, wheelchair users have a problem of height, for example, limitation of reaching space and difficulty of approaching some furniture. The standing mobility wheelchair was thought efficacious to these problems.
