Abstract:
This paper describes a control circuit with VLSI for powered wheelchair. The characteristics of this system were to be available to consist of a few chips and to make programs for all purposes. 8-bit micro-controller, Motorola MC68HC11A was adopted. In an experiment through very narrow way, a program was developed to control powered wheelchair using five infra red sensors, three were in the front and two were in the both sides, and two switched in the front bumper. The result showed that infra red sensors responded differently between materials of wall. On the other hand, the other program was developed to run exactly straight ahead and in even speed. Additionally, a program, which controlled a powered wheelchair to run along a wall using sonar, made a run keeping 50cm distance from a wall.
