Abstract:
This paper describes research and development focusing on commercialization of "My Lifty" that is a transferring device for home use. The target of development included contrary factors. To satisfy these requirements, five types of products were developed. The first one had a raising and lowering mechanism by foot steps. The next one "My Lifty A" had a electrical powered raising and lowering mechanism and smaller diameter castors to make it available to adapt powered wheelchairs. Hand pumping type was light weight, 6.2kg, and it can be put in cars easily. It had middle diameter castors for outside use. Electric powered drive type had a driving wheel at the center of four castors. It reduced care giver's load. Additionally, it was available to climb 30 degrees slope and run over 1.5cm curb. A manual attendant-controlled type had a non-swiveling wheel at the center of four castors to ensure maneuvering straight. The center wheel took off from the floor to go side way. International marketing will be considered in the future.
