Abstract:
This paper describes investigation about vertical transportations (like stairway, slope, escalator and elevator) at main stations of JR line. 23 stations, which super expresses stop at, between Ootsuki-Matsumoto (Chuoh line), Ageo-Nagano (Shinetsu line) and Oyama-Utsunomiya (Utsunomiya line) were investigated. Investigators visited these stations and investigated ways from a platform to outside of the station. A new method to describe the route, which consist of some alphabets and figures, was developed. The result showed that 7 stations had regular escalator, 6 stations had special escalator for wheelchairs, 8 stations had elevator, 2 stations had stairclimbers and 13 stations had only stairway. Only one station was available to transport from the platform to outside using only the elevators. It identified that all elevators weren't effective because the whole transport route was not considered.
