For one year from May in 1996, technology assistive activity, especially preparation of living environment for disabled people, has been carried out in Miyako island with the help of central technology specialists. During the period, the specialists came 3 times to the island, and they performed direct guidance and continuous consultation. Through the experience of the activity, following points are recognized important to utilize specialists at remote place. (1) To motivate assistants, such as visiting nurses, the importance of preparation of living environment. (2) To give full information to the local assistants before the visit of central specialists, and to promote a better communication between them. (3) To increase understanding of local government and related organizations.
