Abstract:
In the Ishikawa prefectural rehabilitation center, to establish self-supported life by means of acquiring transfer ability, electric-motor-driven wheelchair has been applied on 3 disabled patients, whose ADL was totally supported by other people. As the result, all three persons could drive the electric wheelchair by themselves using their little potential ability. To achieve such a success, not only medical but technical and social advises are desirable, and the teamwork of those specialists is important. Particularly, in the case of electric wheelchair, following matters are quite important. First, tools to examine self-transfer power is needed, to utilize one's physical function and potential ability. Second, trial devices must be manufactured, to give a judgment at training center, or to select devices by oneself. Third, organization or area must be provided to do operational exercise of devices under certain advisory. Furthermore, backup system to readjust or to maintain devices must be established.
