Abstract:
The clinical application of electrostimulation has long history. Especially, it has been widely used as a diagnostic method (galvanic test). The current application fields of electrostimulation are, functional electrical stimulation (FES) for the recovery of muscle function and electrostimulation for exercise. In the case of FES, development of the system using embedded electrode has been started since three years ago in Japan. On the other hand, in the case of exercise application, electrostimulation for various kinds of disorder has been examined. And today, practical system for rehabilitation exercise is strongly required. The special interest group "SIG Electrostimulation" is established (1) to collect and spread information of electrostimulation, (2) to develop therapeutical exercise system and to refine its application technology, (3) and to promote to exchange information among members.
