Abstract:
Thirteen examples of memory aids for elder persons with dementia are introduced, and their efficacy is argued. In each example, not only the grade of memory defects but the number of items in a checklist (19 items) consistent with the patient's condition are reported. Each memory aid is discussed by classifying it into position of object or room, process of actions, person's name, schedule, orientation, event in the past, knowledge. In the case of boundary and light dementia, memory aids, which give clues to recall memory, are mainly utilized. On the other hand, in the case of medium or serious dementia, memory aids, which protect errors due to laps of memory, are also utilized.
