Abstract:
In this paper, a seating system for children with severe physical and mental disabilities is reported. The seating system is developed for a child with cerebral palsy, CP. He is ten years old and his CP type is spastic. He is irritable and has an epitonic body. That causes head unsteadiness and falling from chairs when he uses normal seat cushions or wheelchairs with a supporting system. Through the KISS simulation, the authors conclude that crossed-legs sitting is the best for him. And they make a seating system and a child car seat supporting his crossed-legs sitting. Using it, he can eat and watch TV by himself. This paper might be useful when making a seating system for a child with cerebral palsy.
