Abstract:
The comparison between the hip-pressures on sling seats and those on plate seats. They are equipped to each type of wheelchair regulated by Japan Industrial Standard, JIS. An experiment is made on three persons with no disabilities. The distributions of the hip-pressures and the highest pressures under both ischia are measured by changing the condition of their seating. The result of the experiment indicates that the plate seat has better stability against rolling than the sling one. On the other hand, it also shows that the hip pressure on the sling seat is lower than that on the plate seat. Then, the authors advise that the plate seat users should take care and use adequate cushions so as not to make pressure sores. And they mention that urethane seat cushions have better stability than gel flotation seat cushions. They prove this through some experiments and discussions.
