Abstract:
Various scanning input methods using general input device emulating interface with multi-switch input controller is evaluated. Evaluated scanning methods are, 1) row-column scanning with one switch, 2)combination of scanning and dividing method (characters are divided two or four parts and one part including desired character is selected until desired character is chose) with one switch, 3)combination of scanning and coding method with one switch, 4)combination of scanning and coding method with two switches, 5)directed scanning with five switches. Five non-disabled subjects inputted 159 characters and it is evaluated from the viewpoint of total input time and frequency of error. It is recognized again that scanning method is time-consuming and not efficiency.
