Abstract:
In this paper, some analyses of the equipment and the barriers in the welfare centers are reported. The author is a quadriplegia with cerebral palsy. He surveys The General Welfare Center of Matsuyama City. Based on the survey's results, he makes considerations on the essential conditions of these kinds of centers for the elderly and people with disabilities. In order to get an international symbol of access, some conditions are required related to six categories, such as, the doorways, the entrances, the ramps, the aisles and stairs, the bathrooms, and the elevators. Then the author classifies the equipment and the barriers into the six categories. And then, he makes a comparison between the required conditions and the measurement of the center. After comparing, he mention that the center meets the conditions in each categories. Also, he surveys other equipment for persons with other disabilities, such as, the guide aisles and the braille blocks. As a result, he suggests that wall grab bars should be installed in the both sides of the guide aisles and the color of the braille blocks should be changed to yellow.
