Abstract:
Physical environment (outdoor activity) and social environment (association with relatives, neighbors, and friends) of aged people living in their own house and in an old-age home were investigated. Data was mainly collected by interviewing old people (older than 60) living in rural district of Koriyama city. The collection period was during June and July in 1996. As far as concerning outdoor activity, aged people living in old-age home were more active than whom live in their own house. On the other hand, in the case of association activity, people living in their house were more active than in the old-age home. The relation between the geometrical distance and the contact frequency with children in a separate house, relatives, or friends is attributed to the movement of living place. The difference in the number of familiar neighbors indicates the difficulty of old people to enter new community in the new place.
