MEASURING THE OUTCOME OF CBR INTERVENTIONS

Measures of CBR outcome rest on the ability to measure the reduction in 'handicap' in a disabled person after interventions. Handicap is defined contextually as a deficiency in carrying out what the person could normally do before his disability, and hence, developing a tool to measure outcome, requires the knowledge of the baseline pre-morbid functioning. Any improvement with interventions needs to be graded as the extent of gain attained by the disabled person to reach the pre-morbid state of functioning.

Questions to be asked before developing a measuring tool

1. What do I want to know? 2. Will the measurement tool I design answer my questions (validity)? 3. Is the measurement tool reliable and avoid large errors? 4. Is the measurement tool sensitive enough to pick up the differences that I am searching for? 5. Is it simple enough to use with ease?

With the scoring key designed above, scores can be assigned to observations on different dates, when a person is monitored during the period of intervention.
