Social Firms in Each Country

Since establishment of Law for Supporting Independence of Persons with Disabilities, issues related with employment of persons with disabilities have come to the front.InJapan, there are a number of social welfare facilities providing workplaces for persons with disabilities to promote welfare-supported employment. However, the organizations accepting persons with disabilities asgeneral employees are restricted to only a small number of companies including special subsidiaries(Tokureikogaisha). In future,it will be essential to prepare various workplaces which will accept workers with disabilities leaving welfare facilities. In some countries, social enterprises called "social firms" have drawn much attention. At social firms most of the employees are disabled but the ways social firms are managed and supported slightly differ with countries. This seminar aims to introduce the latest situation of social firms in some of the leading countries and the support provided for those social firms.
