Richard Orme

Head of Accessibility, Royal National Institute of Blind People

Richard Orme is Head of Accessibility at RNIB. He is responsible for the organisation's work on improving access to technology, information, culture and the environment. This role is Richard's latest appointment in a career of twenty years working on accessibility for people with disabilities.

Richard has worked with a wide range of adaptive technologies, written for journals, presented at international conferences and developed software solutions in partnership with assistive technology companies.

He has benefited from working with hundreds of children and adults with sight problems, mainly in roles identifying technology solutions in education or employment.

Richard Orme is at the forefront of RNIB's campaign to improve access to textbooks to learners with print impairments. He is a member of steering group established by the Education Department of the UK Government, which will oversee a pilot project and technical investigations over the next two years.
