The 2nd International Conference on Disaster Preparedness for Persons with
Disabilities

12-13 May 2009, Phuket, Thailand

Objectives:

Establishing international networking for Promotion of Disaster Preparedness of Persons with Disabilities in the context of WSIS (United Nations World Summit on the Information Society) Plan of Action implementation by sharing information on;

  1. Needs of Persons with Disabilities for Disaster Preparedness with special attention to respective components of individual preparedness such as logical understanding on Disaster, accessible communication channel for warning, and planned/confirmed evacuation route,
  2. Knowledge and experiences on disaster preparedness for persons with disabilities inaugurated and accumulated in various countries.
  3. Best practices of Disaster Preparedness promotion activities that meet the requirements of Persons with Disabilities,
  4. On-going Disaster Prevention/Mitigation initiatives at local/international level,
  5. Local knowledge on disaster preparedness and evacuation that are beneficial for persons with disabilities
  6. Promotion of social awareness of disaster preparedness system accessible for persons with all types of disabilities.
  7. Initiatives of Bridging the Digital Divide in the area of Disaster Preparedness of Persons with Disabilities as the implementation of WSIS Plan of Actions, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and other relevant instruments.

Deadline for abstracts application: 15 April 2009

  • Candidates must send abstracts in less than 300 words and CV by 15 April 2009 to the Conference Secretariat. The abstract must have;
    - Title of presentation.
    - Name of author, presenter and affiliation.
    - Brief biography of the author.
  • The maximum time for presentation will be 15 minutes.
  • All abstracts must be submitted by e-mail to the Conference Secretariat� (phuket.initiative@gmail.com)
  • All submitted abstracts will be reviews by the Executive Committee and selected authors will be notified on the outcome of the review process by 22 April 2009.
  • After the paper selection approved by the Executive Committee, the full presentation must be submitted by 27 April 2009.
