We received the donation of the jackets for staff.

On 1st of May, Shiga Association on Support of Employment, Living and Participation (Shiga SELP) donated us 50 jackets for staff. These jackets help the local people to catch us easier because of clearer identification although we used to use a name-tag along with us so far. In addition, its jacket gave us an opportunity to appeal JDF as well. We would like to say our great gratitude to the Shiga SELP on this donation, and we sincerely would like to continue our support activities in this region.

Messages from the supporters participated in our activities

I entered Sendai City in the evening of April 29. I took a look its area such as Sendai Airport after leaving my belongings at a guesthouse. My eyes caught mountains of debris, and fishing boats and vehicles staying at unexpected places here and there in its city. As moving forward along the coast, I found out the area fully flatted which might be arranged after the disaster. I knew later that there were many houses in its area before hit by the disaster. It did not take much time for me to understand how severe the disaster swept everything in its area even through a glimpse of its area.

While I was full to accept its truth in front of my eyes, I encountered tulips blossomed around the place I stood. Those tulips were totally covered by sea soil except those flower parts, which were supposed to be hit by the tsunami. However, those tulips showed me their overcome with fully blossomed. What I would like to say is that “no matter which difficulties we face, we could have a might to make our dreams come true if never give up. I do hope that the people affected this disaster and the supporters for those such as JDF will be able to overcome any single difficulty until they make their smile and reach their achievement. I would like to backup them from Shiga prefecture. (A supporter from Shiga prefecture)

I felt fear of natural disaster when looked at the scenery which I had no expression besides the word “devastation”. It is limited what I can do as a single supporter here. However, I think that I have to transfer the information received here to others in order to produce the linkage with another supports through those information. I myself participated in the activity to support the institute for persons with disabilities in Yamamoto Town for reopen of its institute. The supporters involved with its institute have strong enthusiasm for its reopen, and their keenness guided me to act more actively. I have had great experience through the activity done with the supporters from all over Japan. I hope we will be able to support continuously without interval as it is needed for long-term support. (A supporter from Tokyo)

I learnt two things through the activity here. One is the hardship we should step forward even if it had not been ready to do so because of fear of unknown as the first experience. The other is the necessity to support the specific field, which is hardly understood for the public, besides the arrangement of broken houses and meal support, which are always released by the media. I do hope that the activity by JDF gives the incentives to the people in disaster region for stepping forward, and brings the time for them to smile as soon as possible. ( A supporter from Tokyo)
