Foreword
This publication on the provision of assistive technology in the Nordic Region is being published by the Nordic Cooperation on Disability (NSH) in connection with the 20th World Congress of Rehabilitation International, to be held in Oslo on 21-24 June 2004.
This publication is an English version of the report “Aktuellt i Norden – Nationella system för förmedling av hjälpmedel” which was published by the NSH in connection with the first Nordic Assistive Technology conference (NAT-C), held in Copenhagen on 19-20 May 2003.
The English version has been produced by the NSH and the Swedish Handicap Institute. The concept for the translation project came from Japan via SVERI, the Swedish member organisation in Rehabilitation International; and financial funding has been provided by the Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities via an international research and development cooperation with National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities and Urawa University in Japan.
The national descriptions in this publication have been produced according to a joint template by the Danish Centre for Technical Aids for Rehabilitation and Education, STAKES (the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health) in Finland, the State Social Security Institute in Iceland, the National Insurance Administration in Norway and the Swedish Handicap Institute. The introduction takes a brief look at Nordic cooperation in the field of assistive technology.
