ASEAN and Millennium Development Goals

Building inclusive and sustainable growth in ASEAN is projected to be a challenge in the post-2015 era.

Three key aspects:

• Inclusive economic and social progress
  The core poor is emerging, cannot enjoy equal benefit and opportunities from economic development
• Balanced urban growth
  By 2013, nearly 300 million people in ASEAN lived in urban areas, but urban development is not keeping up with the massive expansion.
• Social protection systems
  Solid systems help protect individuals and families from economic shocks, natural disasters, risks related to everyday life (unemployment, illness, death, etc.)
