[MHLW] ICF Expert Committee Held
On 22 September 2021, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) held the 22nd meeting of its Expert Committee on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
The MHLW has established this Committee in the Statistical Subdivision of the Social Security Council to promote the effective use and dissemination of ICF in Japan, following the WHO’s establishment of the group to promote ICF Use in 2006.
The Working Group for Promoting and Disseminating ICF was established under the Committee in 2019, and the Working Group presented a report summarizing its deliberations in February 2021.
Based on the results of the deliberations, the Committee will further consider the following.
To be widely used in clinical practice, the Committee will examine and then put into practice a simple set of scales that do not place a burden on the rater and can be evaluated by all. At the same time, the Committee will develop a system to ensure compatibility with existing rating scales.
Consider codes combined with other chapters of ICD-11 (e.g., gait, ADL, etc.) in order to create an elaborate system to serve as statistics.
Develop educational materials for medical (e.g., rehabilitation, nursing), nursing care staff, and professionals involved in information management and disseminate those materials in clinical practice.
Disseminate Japan's leading initiatives to the world. Also, collect information on the state of ICF use overseas, not only in the medical and nursing fields but also in a wide range of other fields, and explore the potential of ICF. |
