[MLIT] Towards Better Mobility in Urban Parks - A Committee Meeting conducted to Update Guidelines

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) held the first meeting of the Committee for the Revision of the Guidelines for Better Mobility in Urban Parks on 5 November 2021.

This Guideline was developed in 2008 as a concrete guide for park administrators to make park facilities accessible and was revised in 2012. However, nine years have passed since the last update, and the revised Barrier-Free Act came into full effect in April 2021. In addition, the socio-economic conditions surrounding accessibility have also changed. Therefore, the MLIT convened this meeting to further promote the accessibility of urban parks from both hardware and software perspectives.

The Committee, whose members are academic experts, organizations of people with disabilities, and local governments, will meet three times to update the guidelines within FY2021.

In the first meeting, the members discussed the contents to be revised.
