RNN (Regional NGO Network for the Promotion of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons)

The Regional NGO Network to promote the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons (RNN) is the first and a unique Network in the Asian and Pacific region with membership of both national and international organizations of/for people with disabilities, established in the beginning of the Decade. RNN promoted the Decade by various activities such as annual campaign in different countries in the region.

RNN set up 13 Thematic Research Task Forces to evaluate the Decade, corresponding to the 12 policy areas of the Agenda for Action for the Decade plus "Women with Disabilities" following its General Assembly decision on December 10, 2001 convened at Hanoi, Vietnam during the RNN Campaign 2001. Not all TF reports have been completed by now nor posted here and some others are in final stage of editing.

On a parallel with TF activities, RNN Secretary General has asked leaders of disability movement in each country to send the NGO country report. Eighteen reports from 17 countries and territories have been collected.

Most of these reports have been compiled and published as "NGO Perspectives for Full Participation and Equality: An Evaluation of the A/P Decade of Disabled Persons" and distributed at the RNN Campaign 2002 to mark the end year of the Decade in Osaka and at the ESCAP High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on A/P Decade in Ohtsu, both in Oct 2002 in Japan. In this website we find some reports not included in the publication.

We deeply appreciate members of RNN network who enthusiastically contribute to this work.

We are gratified that regional efforts can continue in the coming decade with the stronger missions and action plans stated in BMF (Biwako Millennium Framework) by the collaboration of UN-ESCAP and various NGOs allied to APDF (Asia Pacific Disability Forum).

Last but not least, our sincere appreciation should extend to the Mitsubishi Foundation, Government of Japan and UNESCAP for their strong support to our project.
