ジョージ･カーシャ

｢情報化時代においては、情報へのアクセスは基本的人権である。｣ -2001年 国連にて

ジョージ･カーシャ博士は、1987年情報技術改革に着手し、｢印刷字を読めない障害｣という言葉を初めて作った。そして、適切に設計され、XMLなどの構造化されたマークアップ言語を使用した情報システムにより、すべての情報をすべての人にとってアクセシブルにできるという確信のもと、進歩しつつある技術をその方向へと推し進めている。

カーシャ博士は、情報をアクセシブルにするだけでなく、視覚障害者あるいは印刷字を読めない障害がある人々にとって、情報が完全に役立てられるようにするための技術の開発に力を注いでいる。

DAISYコンソーシアムの事務局長として、また、アメリカ合衆国のRFB&D(視覚障害者およびディスレクシアの人々のための録音サービス機関)のアクセシブル技術担当シニアオフィサーとして、カーシャ博士はドキュメントへのアクセスに関する第一人者であると認められている。また、DAISY/NISO規格委員会委員長、WAI/W3C運営 委員会共同議長、国際デジタル出版フォーラム理事、およびNIMAS(全国指導教材アクセシビリティー標準規格)委員会委員も務めている。

He started innovations information technology in 1987, and coined the term “print disabled.”He believes that properly designed information systems that use structured markup, such as XML, can make all information accessible to all people, and is pushing the evolving technologies in that direction.

George Kerscher is dedicated to developing technology to make information not only accessible, but fully functional in the hands of persons who are blind or who have a print disability.

As Secretary General of the DAISY Consortium and Senior Officer of Accessible Technology at Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic in the USA, Kerscher is a recognized leader in document access. In addition, Kerscher chairs the DAISY/NISO Standards committee, co-chairs the W3C's Steering Council for the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), and serves on the IDPF and NIMAS Boards.
