A story of a mother and a son with dyslexia

・The mother had the first contact with DAISY multimedia textbook introduced by a special education coordinator in 2007. A group of volunteers produced DAISY multimedia textbooks from the scratch using a scanner upon request of a user with dyslexia.
・The volunteer group requested a permission to reproduce a textbook in DAISY format but there was no official response from the publisher. The volunteer group had to decide to meet the urgent needs of the students who required a DAISY multimedia textbook immediately. The group requested her to purchase an extra paper copy of the textbook to prevent potential legal risks until the 2008 revision of the Copyright Law.
・Before the use of DAISY multimedia textbooks, he hated reading because it was too difficult for him.
・Once experienced the reading with a DAISY multimedia textbook, he became eager to read because he could understand the contents and enjoyed synchronized presentation of reading aloud and text highlighting among other convenient reading features of DAISY.
・He said, "I can read the textbooks with DAISY" and even became interested in books printed on paper.
・The mother actively advocated rights of access to education of kids with learning disabilities through promotion of production and dissemination of DAISY multimedia textbooks including international exchange of dyslexia advocacy between Norway and Japan.
・Today, her son is a university student majoring in economics with assistive technology skills to help his reading. He reads books and other reading materials either in DAISY format or with text-to-speech technology.
