Using Real World Images to Enhance Your Communication Aids with Boardmaker

Terry Johnson
Mayer-Johnson Company

This session is an introduction to the digital camera and digitized images for use in making communication boards and special educational activities. The images may be edited in a simple paint program and then used with other programs like word processing programs, paint programs, and communication programs, such as Boardmaker and Speaking Dynamically Pro.

The presentation will show you how to use a digital camera to capture digital images and then edit them in a simple paint program. The Boardmaker program will be used to store the images in custom libraries. The pictures may then be used with Boardmaker to create color communication displays, which may be printed out to be used as static communication boards or communication device overlays.

The digital images may also be used with Speaking Dynamically Pro to develop custom, talking communication screens for use in augmentative communication. These screens may be used for augmentative communication, motivational games, and different activities for the classroom.

This session is perfect for individuals who want to know more about getting their own pictures into the computer using a digital camera, using simple editing techniques, making communication boards and overlays, or using the Boardmaker and Speaking Dynamically Pro software programs.
