EDITOR'S COMMENT
The Asia Pacific Disability Rehabilitation Journal has been consistently attempting to upgrade the publication in all respects. Gradually, the efforts of the sponsors, the editorial team and the well wishers have resulted in one of the best journals dealing with academic aspects of non-institutional forms of rehabilitation, especially in developing countries. We now have a mailing list of about 2000 addresses, spread over more than 70 countries, who have requested for a copy of the journal. It can be fairly reliably assumed that these readers, having requested for a copy, will read at least 50% of the contents, while some others who can access the journal through the original subscribers, will also read parts of the journal. Apart from this, the journal is also on the Internet, whose readership is unknown today. Thus the journal is now reaching a substantial proportion of decision makers in many countries, and is able to influence their decision making process. A reflection of this trend is evident in the number of authors who quote from this journal in their articles. All this has been made possible through the enthusiasm of the authors who have submitted articles for publication in the journal, the editorial board members who have reviewed the articles at short notice and on time, and the publishing team. We hope that the tempo will be kept up and that more authors will choose the Asia Pacific Disability Rehabilitation Journal as the first choice for the publication of their best articles in this area. In order to improve the journal's sustainability beyond a short period of time, a corpus fund is started by Action for Disability, UK, the sponsors of the journal. There has been a fair amount of support for it from various readers and organisations whose members are on our mailing list. We hope to receive this support from many others who are able to do it, however small the effort may be. The philosophy behind the publication of this journal has been to improve the knowledge base of people involved in the nascent field of non-institutional forms of rehabilitation, particularly in developing countries. To fulfil this objective more emphatically, the sponsors and the publishers have been trying to put together a group of articles dealing with some important themes in community based rehabilitation, from eminent authors from all over the world, who have wide experience in this field. We hope that this publication will also be a major contribution from the team behind it, to improve the knowledge level in community based rehabilitation.
