[MHLW] Statutory Employment Rates of Persons with Disabilities Raised by 0.1%

The statutory employment rates of persons with disabilities were raised by 0.1% on March 1st, 2021. Though new rates were stipulated by the “Law for Employment Promotion etc. of the Disabled” when it was amended in 2018, the rates had been reduced by 0.1% as a transitional measure. The transitional measure was terminated on March 1st, 2021, a postponement of 2 months from the original date due to requests from employers who were financially affected by the economic crisis caused by Covid-19. The new statutory employment rates of persons with disabilities are as follows.

 Private enterprises: 2.3%

 Public agencies: 2.6%

 Prefectural Boards of Education: 2.5%

Together with this raise, the scope of the statutory employment rate system was expanded to include all enterprises with 43.5 or more employees. In other words, a private enterprise with 43.5 or more employees must hire one or more persons with disabilities.
