[MLIT] “Exploratory Committee to Promote Mobility Support for Pedestrians Through ICT” Held

On April 15th, 2021, the MLIT held the first meeting of the "Exploratory Committee to Promote Mobility Support for Pedestrians Through ICT" in Fiscal Year 2021. The committee has been working on the development of data networks for pedestrian spaces and the collection and update of information regarding disabled access since its establishment in 2014. This year, the committee aims to move ahead with a “Barrier-free Navigation Project”. This plans to enrich information regarding disabled access by converting existing data to open data and promoting its utilization.

The following points were discussed at the first meeting.

(1) Development of data about disabled access around the venues of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games

(2) Demonstration project promoting data networks for pedestrian spaces.

(3) Development and utilization of information on disabled access

(4) Information sharing regarding initiatives in related fields

(5) Future strategies to encourage widespread adoption of the initiatives by the public
