On June 25th, 2021, the MHLW released the "Status of Employment of Persons with Disabilities Applying via Public Employment Security Offices in Fiscal Year 2020". The number of job applications made by persons with disabilities via Public Employment Security Offices (Hello Work Offices) in the fiscal year 2020 was 211,926, a decrease of 5.1% from the previous year and the first decrease in 21 years since 1999. In addition, the number of people with disabilities entering new employment was 89,840, a 12.9% decrease compared to the previous year, and the first decrease in 12 years since 2008. This fall in the numbers is thought to have been affected by the decline in job openings in manufacturing, accommodation, food and beverage, and wholesale and retail industries due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the curbing of job-seekers' job-hunting activities. In addition, the number of dismissals of persons with disabilities reported to the Hello Work Office was 2,191, which is an increase from the previous year (2,074 in 2019). The employment rates are as follows.
