[MEXT] First Meeting of Research Collaborators on the Smooth Operation of the “One Student, One Tablet” Program Held

On June 9th, 2021, the first meeting of “Research Collaborators on the Smooth Operation of the ‘One Student, One Tablet’ Program, based on the GIGA School Concept" was held. Under the GIGA (Global and Innovation Gateway for All) School Initiative, elementary and junior high schools and special needs schools across the country have been equipped with one tablet per student and a high-speed, high-capacity intra-school communication network from April 2021, and full-scale use of ICT has started both in and out of school. Therefore, it is important to manage the school ICT environment in a stable manner on a daily basis, and to provide guidance for students to enhance the effectiveness of their learning using ICT.

MEXT has set up this research group in order to consider basic ideas and points of reference to further promote the smooth operation of the “one student, one tablet” program. The members are principals of elementary or junior high schools, staff of Boards of Education, academic experts, and so on. With the cooperation of academics and others with knowledge of school education and ICT, the group will conduct a specialized study through a survey of the use of ICT and a literature review. The issues to be discussed are as follows.

(1) Design of a survey of the actual situation of ICT utilization in schools in 2021

(2) Literature reviews regarding the use of ICT in education

(3) Basic ideas and directions concerning the “one student, one tablet” program

(4) Other

The research group will be in operation until the end of March next year. For more information, please visit the website below(Japanese only).
