[MLIT] Guideline for Public Transportation Operators' Services During COVID-19 Released

On 9 July 2021, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) compiled the Guidelines for Services by Public Transport Operators (PTOs) based on the countermeasures against CIVID-19 to enhance PTOs' services.

So far, MLIT has published several guidelines for the services by PTOs. For example, in 2018, the guidelines to respond to the characteristics of each transportation mode and various disabilities, based on the Universal Design 2020 Action Plan decided in February 2017. In addition, in February 2021, the Guidelines to Treat People with Dementia as a separate volume (Dementia Edition)  in response to the Outline for the Promotion of Dementia Measures in June 2019.

Amidst concerns about COVID-19 infection, and in light of the Olympic and Paralympic Games,

MLIT has sorted out the problems of people with disabilities and others through interviews with people with disabilities and transportation operators and compiled guidelines for appropriate services based on infection control measures.

This guideline consists of 16 pages and is titled Guidelines for PTOs on How to Provide Services to the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities in Light of COVID-19 Measures (supplementary version). The Study Group for the Revision of the Guidelines for PTOs' Services compiled it.
