[MLHW] Study Group Meeting Held to Discuss the Modality of National Examinations for Mental Health Social Workers

On 27 July 2021, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) held the first meeting of the Study Group on the Modality of the National Examination for Mental Health Social Workers.

With changes in the environment, the role of mental health social workers is expanding, not only to support people with psycho-social disabilities but also to support people who need support in their daily and social lives due to problems stemming from mental disorders. In line with the expansion of their role, the deployment and employment of mental health workers have also expanded from the medical, welfare, and health sectors to include education, justice, industry, and labour sectors. Therefore, in order to train mental health workers who can appropriately respond to their expanding roles, the training curriculum for mental health workers was reviewed, and a new curriculum was introduced in FY2021. As a result, a national examination based on the new curriculum will be held in FY2024. Accordingly, this study group will consider the following items.

  2. Criteria for passing the examination
  3. Improvement of the quality of examination questions
  4. Number of questions
  5. The format of the examination
  6. Examination schedule and duration
  1. The modality of the national examination following the new curriculum
