[Cabinet Office] Disability Week Events Held

The United Nations has designated December 3 as the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”.  In Japan, the Basic Law for Persons with Disabilities sets December 3 - 9 as the “Week of Persons with Disabilities  (herein referred to as “the Week”), which the Cabinet Office commemorates  with events every year.

In 2021, the following events were held during the Week.

  • Awards ceremony in relation to the Week: December 7, 2021
  • Exhibition of works related to the observance of the Week: December 3-9, 2021
  • “Posters of the Week” FY2021 Exhibit  (works recommended by prefectures and designated cities)
  • “Experiential Compositions to Expand the Mind” FY2021 Exhibit (Grand Prize)
  • Workshops on the Week, December 4-5, 2021
  • “Towards an Inclusive Society – A Boccia Experience for Everyone” (Kanagawa Boccia Association)
  • “The Life of a Guide Dog User” (Japan Guide Dogs Association)
  • “Let's try a  Simulation to Experience Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities“ (Caravan "Winds" of the Shinjuku-ku Hand-in-Hand Parents' Association)
  • Online seminars on the Week (December 3-28, 2021)
  • “Is the Quality of Support for Children with Developmental Disabilities Guaranteed?:  The necessity for an external evaluation of support providers for children with disabilities” (JDDnet)
  • "The Expansion of Digital Books (multimedia Daisy books: From the perspective of the new delivery system under the GIGA School Program and the work of people supporting those with severe disabilities” (Japanese Society for Persons with Disabilities)
  • “Inclusive Society and Disaster Preparedness:  An Assessment of our Disaster Preparedness for People in Need of Assistance, Focusing on Cooperation among Community Members” (Japan League on Developmental Disabilities)
  • “Art Education and Diverse Color Vision” (Color Universal Design Organization)
