On 16 December 2021, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) held the first meeting of the Working Group on the Core Curriculum for Special Needs Education School Teacher Course.

The Working Group, established under the Study Council on the Training of Teachers for Special Needs Education, focuses on the contents required in Special Needs Education (SNE) teacher courses as stipulated in the Enforcement Regulations of the Education Personnel Certification Act.  In addition, from the professional point of view, the Working Group is to examine the overall goals, the general objectives, and the aims for achievement according to each subject in the SNE field (second column) and subjects in fields other than the SNE to be defined in the certification (third column).

The working group further comprises the following sub-working groups (SWG):

• Visual Impairment SWG
• Hearing Impairment SWG
• Intellectual Disability SWG
• Limbic Disability SWG
• Frail Condition and Sickness SWG
• Developmental Disabilities SWG
