[MEXT] Expert Meeting Held on the Modality of Informatization of School Affairs in GIGA Schools

On December 23, 2021, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) held the first meeting of the Expert Panel on the Informatization of School Affairs in the GIGA School program. GIGA stands for “Global and Innovation Gateway for All”.

With the progress of the GIGA School Project and the use of one terminal per student, the established Expert Panel is expected to indicate the future direction of school work informatization and the possibility of data linkage of school work systems with other systems to further promote work-style reform in schools.

The issues to be considered are:

  • What school informatization should look like to further promote school reforms in line with the progress of the GIGA School concept
  • The possibility of linking data from the school administration system with other systems
  • Other matters

The establishment period is planned for December 23, 2021 to March 31, 2023. At the first meeting, a report was presented on the current status of the informatization of school work, indicating that there are issues such that only 48.7% of municipalities have servers for school work support systems connected to the internet.
