[MHLW] Study Group Held on Assistive Devices for Rent or Sale under the Long-Term Care Insurance System

On February 17, 2022, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) held the study group's first meeting to discuss how assistive devices for rent and sale under the Long-Term Care Insurance System should be processed.

The MHLW set up the study group based on the deliberation report on the FY2021 revision of long-term care remuneration by the Long-Term Care Benefits Division of the Social Security Council. Given the rental principles of the current system, timely and appropriate use of assistive devices, ensuring user safety, and the appropriateness of insurance benefits, the study group will examine various issues related to the modality of rental and sales of assistive devices items under the Long-Term Care Insurance System.

The issues to be examined are as follows:

  1. Current status and issues regarding the rental of assistive devices and the sale of specified assistive devices.
  2. Measures for appropriate assistive device rental and sale of specified assistive devices.
  3. Responses to other issues relating to the rental and sales of assistive devices, etc.
