[MEXT] Special Committee Meeting Held Towards the Enrichment of School Education with Individualized Optimal Learning in tandem with Collaborative Learning

On February 7, 2022, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) held the first meeting of the "Special Committee towards the Enrichment of School Education with the Integral Enrichment of Individualized Optimal Learning in tandem with Collaborative Learning."

The Committee's establishment was decided at the Elementary and Lower Secondary Education Division of the Central Council for Education held on  January 14, 2022, and its objectives are as follows:

  1. To consider the modality of school education in the next generation where social changes, such as digitalization, are underway. It will discuss the matters based on the Central Council for Education's report of January 2021 entitled "Aiming to Build 'Japanese-style School Education in the Reiwa Era' – in realization of learning environments most appropriate for individuals and collaborative learning opportunities that draw out the potential of all children."
  2. To promote the digitalization of textbooks and teaching materials and to organize the relationship with existing textbooks and teaching materials in the course of developing and utilizing the ICT environment based on the GIGA (Global and Innovation Gateway for All) programs at schools, in particular, with regard to the modality of educational guidance and counseling on the lives of students, and to enhance individualized optimal learning and collaborative learning in an integrated manner.

In order to enhance individualized optimal learning and cooperative learning in an integrated manner, the Committee members will mainly discuss the following matters:

  1. The way to provide educational and life guidance to students through the efficient use of one terminal per student initiative, etc.
  2. The modality of textbooks, teaching materials, and related software.
  3. The ideal environment inside and outside the school.
  4. Others.
