[CAO] Related Events to the "Week of Persons with Disabilities" Held

Internationally, December 3 is designated as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). In Japan, the Basic Act for Persons with Disabilities defines the period from December 3 to 9 every year as the "Week of Persons with Disabilities."  In order to promote the active participation of persons with disabilities in social, economic, cultural, and all other fields, the national government and local governments, in cooperation with private organizations, implement various initiatives to support the independence and social participation of persons with disabilities, mainly during the "Week of Persons with Disabilities."

The following is a list of national events conducted by the Cabinet Office. In addition, many other ministries and agencies hold various national events. Furthermore, prefectures and municipalities also had many events throughout Japan.

"Week of Persons with Disabilities" online seminar

The Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (JSRPD) also took the stage at the "Week of Persons with Disabilities" online seminar. It made a video presentation titled "Multimedia Daisy Books: Digital Books to Help Children with Developmental Disabilities to Read."

The JSRPD also demonstrated and reported on the digital textbooks (daisy textbooks) being produced for children with reading difficulties (about 15,000 students), including the operation of a new delivery system that can be played on PCs under the GIGA School Program promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the production of supplementary reading materials recommended in school textbooks.
