[MIC] Release of Interim Summary of Study Group on the Utilization of Metaverse

On February 10, 2023, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) published the interim summary of the "Study Group on the Utilization of Metaverse for the Web3 Era."

The first meeting of the study group was held on August 1, 2022, to resolve issues related to information and communications with regard to virtual spaces, such as metaverse, for the convenience of users, the appropriate and smooth provision of virtual spaces, and the application of innovation, bearing in mind the users’ understanding and the digital infrastructure environment, as the use of metaverse and the market for Web3 is expanding.

The study group met seven times until January 27, 2023, and released this interim summary after publicly inviting comments and holding consultations.

The contents of the interim summary are as follows:

  1. Issues to be discussed based on the "perspectives of the study group"
  2. Matters that should continue to be on the agenda of this study group
  3. Anticipated schedule for the future

(Reference) Notes and issues raised in previous discussions:
In relation to children with disabilities, it is stated that "For example, the different configurations of physical space and time/space could lead to the social participation of persons with disabilities. It can also provide experiences of physical and potentially dangerous things, like being disconnected from reality. " (Comments from Mr. Oya, a member, at the first meeting*)" in (3) Impact on society and the state of society" under "(Reference) Notes and issues raised in previous discussions."
