[Niihama City] Transportation support to polling stations for people with severe disabilities started

Niihama City has started to issue free taxi tickets for people with severe disabilities to travel between their homes and polling stations. The target users are as follows.

・ Persons with a physical disability certificate (1st or 2nd grade) and caregivers or their families

・ Special Education Recordbook (A) holders and caregivers or their family

・ Holders of a Health Benefits Recordbook for the People with Mental disabilities and caregivers or their families

The service excludes people who reside in certain facilities that are not covered.

The procedure for use of the service is as follows.

  1. Applicants submit an application to the Election Administration Commission office (Application by a representative is possible).
  2. Once confirmed by the Election Administration Commission, a taxi ticket is sent by mail or other means.
  3. The user books a taxi and lets the taxi operator know that he/she will use the ticket (The ride will be a round-trip and the taxi will wait for the user until finish voting).
  4. The user needs to take their Recordbook with them when riding the taxi to a polling station.
  5. The user will take the same taxi to return home.
  6. After arriving home, the user fills in the required items on the ticket and gives it to the crew.
