[Communication] Kyushu Institute of Technology and QTnet will start full-scale verification experiments using local 5G

According to a press release of Kyushu Institute of Technology (Headquarters: Kitakyushu City, President: Yuji Oie) published on November 25th 2020, the Institute and QTnet Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuoka City, Representative Director: Kazuto Iwasaki) are planning to start full-scale verification experiments using the local 5 G (5th generation mobile communication system) environment installed in Tabata Campus in March 2020.

Local 5G is a wireless system that allows local businesses and local governments the flexibility to install and use 5G networks in their own buildings and premises. As a part of the Institute’s “Future Campus Concept”, the local 5G area has been installed around the library, university co-operatives, and central plaza where many students gather. The Institute aims to solve various challenges in society and create new services by using local 5G.

The verification experiments include “A guide system for people with visual impairments” and “Walking support system for people with visual impairments”.
